After 10 years, Dave Marino, our volunteer Friday ride leader, is stepping aside at the end of 2018. On behalf of the entire club, the BCI Board of Directors wants to thank Dave for all his efforts for so many years. Club activities don’t happen without volunteers working behind the scenes!

Absent a new volunteer ride leader, we will discontinue the Friday rides. Recent participation has been low as there are several other groups, including BCI members, with alternate rides on Friday mornings.

A new ride leader can define the type of ride it will be - or maybe even change it to Thursday? Start time, location, types of routes, coffee stops, etc. can all be defined by the ride leader. Also, a ride leader of a BCI-sanctioned ride has the protection of the club’s liability insurance. See HERE for more information on organizing club-sanctioned rides.

If you would like to volunteer, email Jim Norman at rides@bikeirvine.org. This is a great way to help “give back” to BCI and won’t take much of your time.

The role involves:

1. Selecting the routes (we have a database of 21 existing Friday routes, plus some 150 other routes already made up) and notifying the BCI Ride Coordinator who will post them to the club calendar.

2. Putting the sign in sheet out, and Guest Waivers, with pens - then putting it away after the ride.

3. Printing/putting out route slips (the club will reimburse for printing cost), or we can ask riders to BYO their own route slip (or load it into their bike computer, all the routes are in RidewithGPS).

4. The ride leader can also suggest new routes or changes to existing routes and work with the Ride Coordinator to prepare route slips.
