These are the routes we rotate on weekends from Deerfield Park. Each ride is planned with Short, Medium and Long options to the same coffee stop regroup
Short are 20 miles or less,
Medium are 25 to 35 miles,
Long are over 35 miles
Long Plus are 45 or very hilly
+/- elevation are generated from RideWithGPS route plots for reference; (likely different on your GPS or other device.)
CF is the “Climb Factor” and reflects how many feet per mile of climbing the route has. The weekend routes range from CF 0 (less than 10 feet per mile) to CF 7 (70 feet or more per mile)

NOTE: On the Long Route, at mile 8.4, for a short stretch (6/10 mile) we are in the construction zone ‘gauntlet’ between the 73 Toll Road signal and the El Toro Signal. No shoulder - take & control the travel lane. If we time the signal - group up and wait for all the tailgating racing motorists to go by, then follow in the empty road with the red light holding up the next wave, it’s not hard to make it downhill to the left turn lane at El Toro before the next platoon comes up behind - and when in the lane, the first motorist should see us and slow down as they come up behind us…
To avoid the construction zone, turn left at Mile 5 onto Lake Forest (there IS a bike button to get a green light to make a box-turn left) and turn right on < ICD / Moulton > and you can miss the majority of the Laguna Canyon and all of El Toro Road…

DETOUR ON MEDIUM ROUTE TODAY
There is 1/2 mile of SINGLE LANE & NO SHOULDER at the construction zone on Laguna Canyon.
Opt 1: You can ride it if you “time” the traffic platoon & control the single lane when the next platoon comes up from behind, or you may want to avoid it…
Opt 2: You can also just use the MEDIUM route, but take this DETOUR:
Pavona Sidewalk & Romano sidewalk to Lake Forest Road to Moulton to El Toro Road. The construction is at mile 8.5 but to detour, you must cross the 133 @ mile 4.6. The DETOUR WILL ADD 2.5 MILES to today’s ride (to skip the 1/2 mile of stress). Map/Profile/.tcx This DETOUR will be offered until the construction work is completed by Caltrans. (perhaps as late as Spring of 2025)
Opt 3: To avoid it, take the LONG to Mile 20.3 - it goes down El Toro Road completely avoiding the construction zone and adds 3.2 miles. (to skip 1/2 mile of stress)
Both routes are then the same all the way to mile 20.3 where the LONG turns up Newport Coast, and MEDIUM continues on PCH to Poppy.
