BCI COUNTS! #1 - Survey Results for 2023 Ridership Challenge

This article was first posted November 30, 2023

Before getting into the survey results, it’s important to note that our membership is quite disparate. One look at the histogram above shows just how much. There is a range from <500 miles ridden to >11,000 miles ridden per member over the last 10 months. While this disparity is substantial, it’s pretty healthy for the club, as it attracts a wide variety of new members. Diversity is good!

However, it does make it difficult to determine policy because not all members share the same desires and goals as to what they want to get out of cycling and BCI itself.

Therefore, I ask that you participate as much as possible by attending board meetings (they’re on ZOOM) and voicing your desires and concerns. Meetings are always organized, very friendly and laid-back. Dates and info are posted well in advance of meetings:  http://www.bikeirvine.org/rides-events?category=Meetings .

If attending meetings is not your cup of tea, then any board member is open to hearing your issues in person at any ride. Sending an e-mail is a great way to communicate with the board: bod@bikeirvine.org . The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

ACTUAL SURVEY RESULTS

As a result of the survey, the following action items will be included in the November 2023 BCI Ridership Challenge:  https://www.bikeirvine.org/2023-challenge .

1. In the four main categories (Miles Ridden, Feet Climbed, Time in the Saddle and Number of Rides), e-bikes will be identified by an asterisk* in front of the rider’s name.

2. The “BCI Counts!” page will become a monthly addition to the statistics section and will feature text and/or video covering topics of interest to the members.

3. The top three riders in the AVG Performance Ranking category (both male and female) will receive Achievement Awards.

Additional action items will be included as soon as our research is concluded and the board approves any required expenses.

If you have any questions or comments, just drop me a line:  statistician@bikeirvine.org .

Below are the results of the recent survey e-mailed to all members. About 25% of BCI members (51) responded, which is an excellent sample of the entire population. Thanks for participating!
