News of another cyclist being tragically hit on our local streets was just circulating when the news of it being one of our own beloved members came through. Jeff Rosenthal was on his way home when he was hit and killed by a motorist driving a vehicle. Very few details have been released, but rumor has him being rear ended in the bike lane of Paseo de Valencia on the eastbound approach to Alicia Parkway. There is some damaged landscaping indicating, if that was the location, that the vehicle crossed the bike lane as well as the sidewalk.
The crash was published by the BikingInLA blog, where more comments memories and tributes to Jeff have been posted. If you click this post you can add your comments and memories to those below.
Jeff joined BCI in October 2014 (BCI# 4723).
He was just 72, and leaves behind his wife Barbara of 41 years, his son Alex, daughter Lindsay (and Asher) and grandchildren, Evy & Landyn.
As more information comes to light we will update this sad news. Jeff was a devout leader in his Temple and a pillar of his community. Here is the announcement from his Temple.
His funeral is tentatively Thursday at 1pm in Newport Beach.
Shiva service will be at his Chabad at 7pm in Mission Viejo.
His widow Barbara has said all are welcome.
Those BCI members who were fortunate to call him their friend are devastated as well.
